Sessions

The Texas Conference on Student Success is a one-of-a-kind opportunity for higher education professionals to share best practices, discover innovative ideas, develop new connections, and experience diverse perspectives, all in the interest of support student success.

There are there three unique session types:

  • Big Idea Poster Session

Bring your bold ideas to this nontraditional, interactive poster session! Highlight an emerging theme or trend in student success that you’d like to explore and brainstorm with colleagues. These sessions are a great way to spark new conversations or share early-stage or pilot projects. Poster presenters are encouraged to design a poster with visuals that draw participants in–compelling graphics, infographics, and/or other engaging elements are strongly recommended.

    • The poster session takes place during Wednesday’s cocktail hour and presenters must be present during the session. Large pinboards and pins will be provided. The posters should be no larger than 40″ (H) x 50″ (H).
  • Round Table Discussions

Want to engage with colleagues around a focused student success topic or challenge? Ready to set the context and guide a meaningful conversation? Then, the Round Table Discussions are for you! Each session will last 30 minutes and should be narrow enough in scope to encourage rich discussion.

    • Round Table Discussions will occur in tables of up to 8 colleagues on Friday morning.
  • Concurrent Presentations

An engaged audience is a learning audience. Use this opportunity to share original research, highlight effective practices, or facilitate meaningful group dialogue. Concurrent sessions are interactive by design, and therefore, presenters are expected to include at least two participant engagement strategies, such as case studies, polling, scenario work, or other collaborative activities. There are three session types to be selected during the submission process:

    • Original Research: Presenter(s) overview their academic research and engage with audience questions or comments. Presenter(s) may choose to overview a current or recent publication or manuscript, or some may choose to focus on one area of a broader publication or project to gather feedback and/or share unique findings.
    • Practitioners Talk: Leaning into best practices, professional successes, and/or an inspired vision for student success, this session type invites presenters to engage the audience with big ideas that challenge audience members to think about higher education from unique perspectives.
    • Facilitated Group Discussion: An interactive, presenter-led session, which engages the audience in intentional and creative ways primarily through audience discussion. Consider that a round-table discussion (detailed above) may be more casual group discussion during a designated time, while a facilitated group discussion is intended to be long-form, structured, and interactive.
