Session Types

The Texas Conference on Student Success is a one-of-a-kind opportunity for higher education professionals to share best practices, discover innovative ideas, develop new connections, and experience diverse perspectives, all in the interest of supporting student success.

There are there three unique session types:

  • Big Idea Poster

60-minute formal session; passive display during conference

Bring your bold ideas to this nontraditional, interactive poster session! Highlight an emerging theme or trend in student success that you’d like to explore and brainstorm with colleagues. These sessions are a great way to spark new conversations or share early-stage or pilot projects. Poster presenters are encouraged to design a poster with visuals that draw participants in compelling graphics, infographics, and/or other engaging elements are strongly recommended.

    • The poster session takes place during Wednesday’s cocktail hour, and presenters must be present during the session. Large pinboards and pins will be provided. The posters should be no larger than 40″ (H) x 50″ (H).
  • Concurrent Presentations

    Standalone 50-minute session

An engaged audience is a learning audience. Use this opportunity to highlight effective practices, facilitate meaningful group dialogue, or share assessment results. Concurrent sessions are interactive by design; therefore, presenters are expected to include at least two participant engagement strategies, such as case studies, polling, scenario work, or other collaborative activities.

  • Original Paper or Research

Moderated with other manuscripts during a 50-minute concurrent session

Author(s) submit an abstract length description for the proposal stage. Proposed papers need not be completed at the time of proposal, but should be recent in writing or conceptualization. If accepted, authors will submit a draft of a full paper no later than August 15, 2026.

    • During the conference, each accepted paper will be grouped thematically with up to 2 additional papers during a 50-minute concurrent session. Each author will have 10 minutes to present their paper. Author(s) may choose to overview the manuscript or may choose to focus on one area of the manuscript to gather feedback and/or share unique findings. This session will be moderated by a discussant during the session.
    • Papers present findings from original, empirical studies that address issues of significance to college student success. Research papers are grounded in empirical data to inform conceptual and practical implications for student success, demonstrating rigor through appropriate research or evaluation methods and/or substantive scholarly analysis.
